It can amplify your feelings, in my case anger and sadness, but in the same time it can soothe. What would music be, other than an expression? It is a large part of your personality, so I doubt if it is random. So maybe it applies directly on your feelings, and not the other way around.
My thought on this is that maybe Music is a dream that a person has the dream to have the feeling that is within the song to be free. If I am angry but I can’t talk (or scream) to someone about it, I always listen to stuff like Linkin Park, or Limb Bizkit, and I scream as loud as I can in my head, and it helps to lower the emotion.
So maybe I am right, because Music also makes people happy or relaxed when they are aggravated or angry. A lot of music that I listen to makes me happy, or at least active. For instance, Frank Sinatra always makes me swing a bit, be it in my head or physically.
The strange thing about it is that music doesn’t sound as good if I don’t have the mood for it. If I am not in the least happy (Not unhappy if I’m not, but I’m just not “happy”) it is unlikely that Frank Sinatra appeals to me.
When I don’t feel anything in particular, I mostly listen to Trance, if I am calm, or Dance, if I have energy to spare. Both styles improve my concentration for some reason, but I can’t put my finger on the why.
Oh, cross that last sentence, I think that I can! Trance and Dance are mostly really fluid music styles, and my thinking should be fluent if I want to concentrate. Listening to Linkin Park while writing this isn’t a good idea, as I just reasoned that Trance and Dance are the best for me to concentrate with, but heck, I’m almost done anyway.
What I am curious about is how you can define a person’s personality by looking at every piece of music that he listens to, but what about the things that he will like but he never discovered?

Pimmeh

Response to Hypocrisy

I find myself agreeing with you, Pimmeh. Many a time in life have I experienced a regular hypocrite. However, I believe that it is part of human nature, which as intellectuals and humans, must try and find and destroy.

We have evolved over the many thousands of years into what we are today. No longer are do we have to evolve because we don't have to adapt anymore. We, instead, manipulate nature. However, as animals, we are still evolving, if not in the physical, in mind. Hypocrisy is a natural trait of Homo Sapiens Sapiens and always will be. However, intellectuals such as mine and yourself have gone beyond this “species” into a new one, which I like to dub “Homo Sapiens Supreme”.

Unfortunately, society is not based upon the simple system of “Survival of the Fittest” anymore and we are left with the drudges of Homo Sapiens Sapiens. Therefore, we're left with a big scummy residue stuck to us in the ecological stew we call life.

First, before, I continue, we must define this “scum”:

A person, who is in full ability to work, who sponges off the government

Hypocrites

Generally, all those that make it their life to aggravate us intellectuals.

I do not believe in murder as an answer for this problem, this stink, in society. In fact, I will be gracious and merciful. However, before I come to the solution, I must describe what I call “The Party”.

The Party is a theoretical political party, consisting of intellectuals, again like me and yourself. The main policies behind this party are as follows:

Decrease unemployment by 100%.

Boost the economy of the European Union.

Call for the formation of a European super-state (Benefits to all EU members must be worked out before attempted)

The Party will aim to decrease unemployment and boost economy by killing to birds with one stone. This consists of setting up state-owned factories all over Europe. These state-run factories would employ those who are unemployed and taking benefits from tax payers, like ourselves. The wage would be the same as what they earn from just lazing around all day. This would encourage these people to get better, more rewarding jobs or seek higher education, if not obtained already. I understand that not every single person would be able to progress further than working in a state-run factory, so they shall have to remain there forever.

On the subject of the unemployed; those which are disabled to a degree where they cannot possibly work under normal circumstances will also benefit of this system because the money made from the state-run factories would go in to funding Specially designed work places for those with common disabilities. No longer would the disabled have to feel inadequate. They would be able to work and feel as if they are contributing to society.

In conclusion, The Party would, theoretically, push towards everybody become Homo Sapiens Supreme, in a way where “Survival of the Fittest” is not fully enforced but enforced in some way. I know Human Rights campaigners would disagree to “Survival of the Fittest” but they can't argue with the system of The Party, for they themselves would be hypocrites, and show that they are only “Homo Sapiens Sapiens”. Why? Well, because they are campaigning for a system which encourages people to sit at home, on their backsides, all day and get money for it. There shouldn't be any right to do that. If they wish to do so, they must also find their own resources to survive, and not sponge off the resources of the government; The Party.

Hypocrisy

Who the heck do they think they are? People who accuse people of something, then do exactly the same. Why the hell do they think that they can judge someone in his own stead? I got accused of hypocrisy a dozen times, but I never felt that I deserved that, ever. Now, someone accuses me of being arrogant and predjudiced, and that person did EXACTLY (Really, EXACTLY) the same as I did.
Why do you think you have the right to judge what is right and wrong? Did you create the world, do you write the laws of our society? The only thing thats right in the world is what the lot of the people thinks whats right. And to think that one can put his law on me and let me think what is right and wrong, that is not just wrong, its presposterous!
The worst thing behind all this is that barely anyone who has a predjudice realizes it. Same thing with hypocrisy. I know that I can be a hyporcitic asshole from time to time, but at least I dont affect others with it and I wont tell others what to do because I think that I’m right!
The worst case of hypocrisy is probably regarding predjudices. “You shouldnt form your opinion about someone right away” but everyone does this exact thing! Everyone immediatly makes a judgement, and there is nothing wrong with that, but you shouldnt tell others that they shouldnt predjudice. It is probably a form of self-defense. If you see a dangerous looking animal, you automatically run away or something along that lines, but what if he is actually really cuddly? That is because looks rarely lie. I often see people on scooters with their sigarettes and stuff, who yell at people who just look at them as they pass by. My first opinion regarding those people is always right, I never ever got proven wrong regarding those people. Not even by a friends experience. They can indeed be nice, but their still egocentric, antisocial and disrespectful.
Would it be right to assume that hypocrisy is a form of resentment of their own life? Hypocritical people are rarely satisfied in their life, and therefore I assume that hypocritical people actually have problems with their own personalities... But what is the link between the personality and the state of mind? Do both affect each other in the same way? No matter what happens in my personal life, I always keep up a happy state with friends, and it is not at all hard to do, because friendship makes me happy.
My ultimate conclusion is that hypocrisy is a subject that cannot be solved by someone from the outside, but rather by attempting to understand your own mind. I always see my own failures if I look at myself objectively, but I notice that other people find it hard to accept their own mistakes.
Humanity is made of fail,
Pimmeh

The first, of many?

So, me and Jim started a conversation with the following sentance.
Pimmeh's text wil be in italic, and Jim's will be in bold.

Someone said to me once "It's sad most of your friends are on the internet".

Ignorance

Aye.

I think that I have it even worse. People thought that I stalked a moviestar (star...Ev Lynch) because Im subscribed on her fan-forum. I just admire her, and people dont understand.
Misunderstanding often leads to hate
For instance, a friend thinks that I hate people because I think their stupid...Why would I hate them? I just KNOW that most of them cannot understand my thoughts
Not thinking any less of them, in any way :S
And because she thinks that I hate, she is starting to get annoid with me, which I do not understand

What do we actually mean by "hate" anyway? A strong dislike to someone or is it something deeper, a bit more harder than disliking?

Hate would be something in the direction of wanting someone not to live, or not to be
A killing emotion.
Because, if you dont want someone to get near you, you dont necessarily hate him, you just....are repulsed?
its a thin line

Aye. Maybe hate is more of an obsession? With hate, you feel like hurting this person, making contact. Maybe hate is an attractive force rather than repulsive? But a negative attractive force.

Yeah, thats the same as wanting death. The barriers of society prevent such actions to be carried out, but still the "want" is there

Could, then, hate be in the same category as love?
Because love is a strong attractive force, a force which compels people to touch each other.

But Hate and Love differ because of the need that you have with someone. With love you need someone, with hate you NOT need someone

But maybe you actually need them with hate. That's why killing has an impact on your soul, because you've lost someone you need. I'd rather think of loving someone as wanting them and needing them but hate as not wanting but still needing.

So murder would be (with relatively sane people) the desire to get rid of the neseccity that you have with someone?

It sounds like it.

Thats fucking strange

But, with murder, the transition is so instant (from them being there to them not), you still need them. Your person doesn't register that this person is now gone.

And insanity results? Talking to dead people?

Insanity's beyond this spectrum of this discussion, I think, since the person can't be deemed responsible if their judgement is impaired.

Why cant you be deemed responsible for murder? Even when you are deemed insane...

Let's just say, insane people don't even know or are able to need. That's why they need support quite alot. That's why they're in hospital.
Because, I think, you don't have the judgement.
Why did you kill this person? The voices told me to. I couldn't escape.
Etc.

I still deem you sane, but for some people its deemed slightly insane, doesnt it?

I don't know.
I am sane because the voices for me are not a controlling force (they can be sometimes) but I can ignore them and I've tackled it at the point where it hasn't drove me insane.

You think

Aye.
Insanity's a weird subject.
Since what can we deem insane?

Insanity is the lack of reason
How do we know what goes through an insane person's mind? A very typical human trait is the ability to lie, so how do we know what is going through someone's mind.

I see.
That statement makes sense
An insane person kills. He didn't have reason within him so that he couldn't, therefore, judge it to be wrong, so he is insane.

Alas, we have found the solution :)
possibly

Only possibly.
Since we don't actually know the meaning of "wrong" and "right".
Are they just opinions or are there some definite factual "rights" and "wrongs"?

Ethics :) Were crossing a LOT of boundaries here
Wrong and right are the opinion of the mass
if the mass thinks your wrong, you ARE wrong
No other human way

!!
My opinion exactly!
We think alike.

Newsflash: No shit?

Lol xD

So basically, the only thing you have to do is making the mass think what you think, and then you have world power

Introduction

Liquid Thoughts
The brick in the window of your logic.

Alas, we have decided to share our deeper thoughts with the community of the blogosphere. This blog will mostly consist of theological/philosophical/ethical questions that we discuss about sometimes. Theres no schedule for updates, but we'll try to make it weekly.
